This customer came in with a course pointer knob that was intermittent on his existing Sandel EHSI. He stated that he liked to upgrade his aircraft every few years to keep up with the latest and greatest. Since he had recently had his engines rebuilt, and after viewing the G600 demo unit in our lobby, he realized he could modernize his cockpit with new avionics and a panel for considerably less money than purchasing the new Baron. In order to provide the current technology to satisfy customer's needs, we proposed and he elected to get the Garmin G600 system. Of course no G600 is functional without a GNS navigator. He chose to install a GNS530 and a GNS430 Com/Nav/GPS. Although he had a RDR 2000 digital radar system for which we installed an EX500 to display and control, he wished to have more data. Since he had a CD changer mounted in the cabin area, we installed the GDL69A. The weather and music are now controlled by his G600 or either of his navigators instead of having an aftermarket controller in the panel. We interfaced the G600 and both navigators to existing SkyWatch system. Using CADD, we drew the proposed panel layout and sent it to the customer for his approval. In order to provide an ergonomic cockpit, we moved his new PS-ENGINEERING PMA8000B and a new GTX 327 transponder to the pilot's panel. The old Radar Indicator location made a perfect spot for the number two Nav/Com and Transponder. We cut the new panel layout on our CNC machine and had them powder coated with a black crinkle. The control wheels were covered in leather and the switch caps were powder coated in the same finish as the panel.
